Since early childhood Erin Chard has lived in and around Victoria in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Her surroundings have always been an inspiration to her. Although she studied art at school and spent many months as a young adult gazing at masterpieces in Europe, Chard only began to paint seriously after being nurtured and encouraged by Molly Privett during the late 70's and early 80's (Privett was associated with the Limners in Victoria and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria have a collection of her works.)

Chard moved from acrylics into watercolours with Flemming Jorgensen, fired by the delicacy and subtlety of the medium. Her studies in light, colour and structure were furthered by the master watercolourist, Alan Bruce.

In 1987 she presented her first professional show. Originally most of her exhibitions were by invitation only. During this period she also completed commissions in watercolours and oils for individuals and groups. As an example, a group of nurses committed to holistic healing purchased a commemorative piece for the recently restored Pemberton Chapel at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria.
